Holiday Open House

  • Location: Museum Grounds
  • Date: December 3rd, 2023
  • Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • Admission: FREE

The West Baton Rouge Museum hosts its annual Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Enjoy an afternoon featuring holiday music, hot cider and tasty gingerbread, craft making, and shopping for stocking stuffers with local vendors inside the museum gift shop. As always, the museum will be decorated for the holiday season with a beautiful Christmas tree that makes for a lovely backdrop for photographs. All around campus, guests will be able to “Find the Elves” on a scavenger hunt adventure while enjoying their favorite annual festivities. There will be historic trade demonstrations inside the big red barn with woodworking and blacksmithing demonstrations, an ornament making activity, a visit from Père Noël, gingerbread, cider, and much more! The West Baton Rouge Museum will also take a moment to honor the wonderful volunteers who have supported museum projects this past year.

We will also have several musical guests all rocking around the Christmas tree! From Jazz to Blues music, our featured entertainment will be the West Baton Rouge Oasis Jazz Band and the museum’s own Blues After School program, sponsored in part by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and Rockin’ Mozart Music Academy.

The historic buildings will be open for complementary tours with tableau performances in the historic 1830 Aillet House. There will be multiple opportunities to catch this theatrical 10-minute show. Also, be sure to visit the museum’s gallery spaces to see exhibits including Small Wonders: Insects in Focus and Off the Hook: A Journey Beneath the Waves with special guests from Master Naturalists, City Nature Challenge, and Wild Ones. Additionally, the West Baton Rouge Museum’s gift shop will be stocked with unique items made with love for you to explore. You will also find several vendors on site with pop-up Christmas shops for all of your holiday shopping needs.

This program is FREE, open to the public, and welcoming of all ages.
