St. Joseph’s Altar: A Louisiana Tradition

Port Allen— Visit the West Baton Rouge Museum to celebrate one of the most famous traditions of St. Joseph's Day, the beautifully decorated altars made to honor the Patron Saint of carpenters, fathers, and Sicily.

Civil War Quilts Forum with the American Quilt Study Group

QuiltingSaturday, April 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.

The Civil War Quilts Forum will be an opportunity for participants to learn about the traditional designs and materials used in quilts during the middle of the 19th century in the northern states and southern states. The event is open to the public.

Artifact of the Month

The museum recently acquired this stunning 19th century coverlet from David A. Wojciechowski of New Orleans.  The coverlet features appliquéd diamond shapes, chenille balls, and silk embroidery in the center and the corners.  It dates to the 1840s-50s.  You can see it displayed in the museum’s c. 1830 Aillet House.
